  Some cool folks we met at the pass, and again toward the bottom of the trail. She was deaf, and they both had lived in Idaho for a time. Cool folks.  Next morning: on the way up Mt. Elbert.   It took about an hour to get above the treeline. We thought we were almost there. Heh.   After a hefty climb, we came up to the only relatively flat spot ... for a few hundred yards.  This is what we saw next (Paul heading onward). As I recall, this wasn't even the summit, either.
