This town straddles the border between Washington and Idaho. Stopped to get a map of the Priest Lake area.

At the trailhead for the Salmo-Priest divide loop. This trail goes for 18 miles, about half of which is in Idaho. The northernmost part of the loop comes within 1/2 mile of the Canadian border.

Ready to rumble. We are the only ones at the trailhead, other than some Forest Service day-hikers doing trail maintenance.

The trail immediately begins to descend into a true *rain forest*, with old-growth pine and cedar.

The huckleberries throughout the hike were *huge*!

Here we begin to delve deep into the forest. The trees were easily over one hundred feet tall at this point! Mayela is a speck in the distance.

Crossing the Salmo river. Probably one of the most difficult crossings to date, if one is trying to keep dry.
